EMDR after gender-based violence

Written by María Eugenia Buceta, psychologist, licence 88498, EMDR basic training complete.

If you are in danger now, your safety comes first. Urgent help lists, by country, the emergency number and the gender-based violence lines.

Many people seek help when the relationship is over and the fear isn't. Being easily startled, guilt, doubting what you saw and lived through, finding it hard to trust.

In EMDR the work covers the memories of the violence and what settled in afterwards, such as guilt or feeling worthless. First comes a base of safety, inside the session and outside it. You tell what you can and want to tell, at your own pace.

If you would rather see a woman therapist, the directory's Gender filter shows who.
