EMDR for burnout and work stress

Written by María Eugenia Buceta, psychologist, licence 88498, EMDR basic training complete.

People describe a tiredness that a weekend doesn't fix. Irritability, poor sleep, work on their mind at all hours, the feeling that nothing is enough. Sometimes there is one event behind it: a dismissal, a manager, a conflict. Sometimes it is demands that never let up, for years.

In EMDR the work covers the moments that left a mark, such as a humiliation, mistreatment or a mistake that still weighs, and the beliefs built around them, such as "if I stop, I fail". It is also used to build resources for what comes next.

The first consultation sorts out what is happening at work and what is happening in you. Many people have their sessions online, at a time their work allows.

If you are in danger now, call your country's emergency number. Urgent help lists the numbers by country.
